Why MDT should be your first step:
The McKenzie Method is your road map leading to a clear and reliable direction for intervention, which is both cost- and time-effective.
This well-researched, exercise based approach of assessment, diagnosis and treatment uses a comprehensive and clinically reasoned evaluation of patients without the use of expensive diagnostic imaging. McKenzie allows patients to learn the principles and empowers them to be in control of their own symptom management, providing both independence & prevention for future reoccurrences.
Manual therapy is a hands-on technique that includes mobilization of soft tissue, nerves and joints. These methods help to assess tissue quality, treat structural impairments, promote range of motion and reduce pain.
Mulligan, Maitland and Active Release Technique are the most well-known philosophies, as performed with movement and/or weight-bearing have been proven to have the most long-lasting effects. Manual therapy is always followed by strengthening exercises to retrain the neurologic system (brain) on how to use that 'newly found' range.
ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
HOW DO OVERUSE CONDITIONS OCCUR?
Over-used muscles/tissues change in three important ways:
acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. Due to addressing ALL the soft tissue involved AND combining active, natural movement patterns, ART achieves goals in minimal sessions.
What is the one thing we do, thousands of times per day, without even thinking about it?...BREATHE! The interplay between respiration and the neuromuscular system lends itself to unchecked right/left asymmetries. These asymmetries may lead to pain and dysfunction up and down the kinetic chain. To compliment other rehabilitation methods, we promote PRI breathing techniques to facilitate and inhibit muscle actions, helping to treat a myriad of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
Developed by world-renowned musculoskeletal, and human movement expert Dr. Andreo Spina, Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®), is a system of joint health optimization, based on scientific principals and research. This type of mobility development is achieved through articular strength and neurological control. Owning the requisite strength at every degree of movement provides maximum integrity to that joint throughout its entire usable range.
Whether you're a young athlete or a weekend warrior, we utilize a progressive, performance-based approach to development and reconditioning. Specifically, our progressions are reverse-engineered, with an end goal of sustained, high-level competition/participation.
